About us

Malia + Kai was born when my niece Malia became super picky and hard to dress as a toddler. My sister-in-law, Shawna, wanted her to have the kind of wardrobe that she herself would wear, and all Malia wanted was comfort. As a compromise Shawna started making her dresses that are made from soft and stretchy jersey material, are easy breezy to put on because of the cross back design and lack of snaps, zippers, ties or complicated closures. A couple of years later the business became Malia + Kai when Kai was added to the family with the intention of someday soon adding something for boys too (still a work in progress). I took over the business in 2021. We are proud to say everything is handmade in the United States to this day.
